Established in 2005, the School of International Education at North Sichuan Medical College serves as the administrative unit for the college’s international education programs, overseeing the training of both undergraduate and master’s degree students. The school comprises four departments: the Office, the Academic Affairs Department, the Student Affairs Department, and the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. It employs eight staff members, including two with senior professional titles, four with intermediate titles, and two with junior titles. To ensure the quality of education for international students and strengthen their management, the college has established a Teaching Advisory Committee for International Students, and within the School of International Education, a Teaching Supervision Team for International Students, a Student Affairs Leadership Group, and a Student Association for International Students have been set up.

The college began enrolling its first cohort of international students in the Clinical Medicine undergraduate program in 2005. In 2012, it started admitting international postgraduate students in medical disciplines. By 2013, the college was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education as a qualified institution for undergraduate medical education (English-taught).In 2017, North Sichuan Medical College became a member of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and a council member of its International Medical Education Subcommittee, with six faculty members appointed as experts in international medical education.In 2020, the college was designated as a standing member of the Sichuan Foreign Student Committee and successfully established a Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) examination center approved by the Ministry of Education.

Over the course of 20 years of development, international education has become a vital part of the college’s academic framework, significantly advancing its internationalization efforts. As of 2024, the college has enrolled a total of 653 international students from countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana, and Tanzania. (Data as of August 2024)
