On April 18, the Seminar on “Chinese Language + Transportation” Education for Belt and Road Countries in the New Era and the 2024 Annual Conference of the Foreign Student Affairs Committee of the Sichuan Association of Higher Education was successfully held at the EVEN Hotel Chengdu Jinniu. Associate Professor Yang Chunyun from the Chinese as a Foreign Language Teaching and Research Section and Jiang Qinling, a staff member from the School of International Education and Cooperation, North Sichuan Medical College (NSMC), attended the event.
During the seminar, Tianjin University and Chang’an University shared thematic presentations on the integration of “Chinese Language + Vocational Education”. Institutions such as Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Chengdu University delivered insightful talks on topics including the application of artificial intelligence, innovation in national awareness education for international students, and international talent cultivation. Representing NSMC, Professor Yang Chunyun delivered a keynote speech titled “Ten Years of Exploration and Practice in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at North Sichuan Medical College”. She outlined the challenging development journey of Chinese language education for international students at NSMC and addressed key teaching difficulties faced by medical institutions. Her presentation focused on areas such as compiling medical Chinese textbooks, innovating language and culture teaching models, and establishing mechanisms for teaching-research integration, all tailored to the medical education context. NSMC’s decade-long innovations and practices resonated strongly with attendees. Professor Yang also shared her experience in compiling the textbook “Clinical Medical Chinese Conversation”, detailing its content, unique features, and target audience. Her contribution received widespread recognition from fellow educators. During the discussion session, Chen Qin, Dean of the School of International Education at Southwest Medical University, remarked, “It is truly remarkable that medical Chinese teaching at medical universities has developed to this level”.
This seminar provided valuable guidance for advancing “Medical + Chinese” education for international students at NSMC and strengthening national awareness education. The university will continue to enhance the management and teaching of international students, build the “Study in NSMC” brand, and further improve its internationalization efforts, promoting greater global exchange and cooperation.
