On the morning of March 31, 2025, the 2nd "March 3rd, Climbing Xishan" International Mountaineering Festival was grandly held at the picturesque Xishan Scenic Area. Twelve international students from our university, hailing from various countries, enthusiastically participated in the event, joining local citizens and international friends in the joy of hiking and immersing themselves in the charm of Chinese traditional culture. The event seamlessly integrated intangible cultural heritage, traditional Chinese medicine experiences, and physical fitness, promoting cultural exchange between China and the world.
This year's festival, themed "Peaks of Intangible Heritage, Preserving the Green," spanned a 4-kilometer route. The journey began at Xishan Square, passing through notable landmarks such as the Three Kingdoms Experience Park, Sunshine Square, and Greenway, before returning to the starting point. Along the way, participants not only enjoyed the natural beauty of Xishan but also took part in fun interactive games at Kaihan Square, such as tossing the pot, kicking shuttlecocks, and playing with marbles. Through these activities, students experienced the charm of traditional Chinese culture through physical movement. A highlight of the event was the intangible cultural heritage exhibition area, where international students had the opportunity to try their hands at traditional arts such as Shu embroidery, guqin (ancient zither), and traditional incense-making. They also sampled local Nanchong delicacies like Guokui (a type of flatbread), gaining a deeper understanding of the city's rich cultural heritage. One of the students from Ghana, Grieve, excitedly shared, "The scenery along the way was beautiful, and it was so meaningful to interact with friends from different countries!"
Through this event, the international students gained an immersive experience of Nanchong's local characteristics, further deepening their understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditional culture. Moving forward, School of International Education and Cooperation will continue to assist international students in exploring China's rich and diverse culture, fostering a deeper love for Nanchong, this beautiful city.
