The 5th National Demonstration of English-Language Teaching by Young Faculty in Undergraduate Medical Education for International Students was successfully held in Dalian recently. This authoritative platform, established by the International Medical Education Committee of the China Education Association for International Exchange, has become a key benchmark for assessing the internationalization level of medical education in China. The competition received strong support and attention from the university. The School of International Education and Cooperation carefully selected Teacher Fan Xinhao, who previously won first prize in the university-level teaching competition, to represent the institution. To prepare for the demonstration, the school formed a dedicated teaching guidance team to provide comprehensive pre-competition coaching and support to Teacher Fan.

In the on-site demonstration, Teacher Fan Xinhao delivered a high-quality English-language teaching session titled “Medicinal Chemistry: Decoding the Pharmaceutical Secrets of Natural Products.” He ingeniously selected three landmark natural drugs—atropine, artemisinin, and paclitaxel—as teaching cases, systematically explaining the core principle of “structure determines function” in medicinal chemistry by tracing their scientific journey from discovery to development.

Particularly noteworthy was how Teacher Fan transformed complex structure-activity relationship theories into vivid and accessible knowledge maps through a meticulously designed instructional pathway. His teaching not only demonstrated profound academic expertise but also showcased exceptional international teaching capabilities. His standard English pronunciation, composed demeanor and delivery, and precise control of classroom pacing left a deep impression on the judges.

In their evaluations, the expert judges specifically noted that Teacher Fan’s course design embodied the “student-centered” teaching philosophy, reflecting the solid professional competence and international teaching vision of our university’s young faculty. At the same time, the experts expressed hope that future teaching would further integrate modern educational technologies with course content to create broader opportunities for enhancing instructional effectiveness.

This successful demonstration marks significant progress in our university’s efforts to advance the internationalization of education and teaching and enhance the comprehensive quality of young faculty, injecting new momentum into the continuous improvement of international talent cultivation.
