On November 15, the High-Quality Development Seminar on “Chinese+” Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language was successfully held at the Rezen Hotel in Nanchong City. Guided by the Foreign Student Affairs Committee of the Sichuan Association of Higher Education, the seminar was co-organized by North Sichuan Medical College and specifically undertaken by its School of International Education and Cooperation. With disciplinary development, teaching innovation, and cultural dissemination in teaching Chinese as a foreign language as core topics, it brought together nearly 70 experts, scholars, and frontline teachers from institutions including Shandong First Medical University, Southwest Medical University, Zunyi Medical University, and China West Normal University, engaging in in-depth discussions on resource integration, standard co-construction, and collaborative development paths for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
At the opening ceremony, Li Hai, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the Foreign Student Affairs Committee of the Sichuan Association of Higher Education, stated that the seminar provided an efficient exchange platform for the teaching Chinese as a foreign language sector, helping the industry jointly explore development paths suited to the needs of the new era. Zhou Dan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office at North Sichuan Medical College, pointed out that the “Chinese+” model has become a core trend in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, with connotations far exceeding mere extensions of language instruction—it represents innovative practice in deep interdisciplinary and cross-field integration.
In the morning session, Huang Jinwei from Sichuan International Studies University, Zhang Chunlan from Sichuan Normal University, and Yang Chunyun from North Sichuan Medical College delivered keynote reports on topics including co-construction and sharing of teaching Chinese as a foreign language resources, practical paths for “Chinese going global”, and innovation and practice in high-quality development of the “Chinese+” model, promoting North Sichuan Medical College’s years of innovation and practical experience in high-quality “Chinese+” teaching for international students. In the afternoon session, Fu Jiaojiao from Zunyi Medical University, Qiu Xiaoyan from Southwest Medical University, and Wang Tao from Chengdu Jincheng College delivered themed reports focusing on hot topics such as digital resource construction for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, collaborative upgrading of teaching teams and work, and the building of distinctive talent cultivation models.
The on-site exchange and interaction session was enthusiastic, with sincere and heartfelt exchanges between questioners and responders. Representatives from multiple universities showcased their institutions’ distinctive achievements and innovative measures in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, resonating widely with all participants. Everyone reached a consensus: there is a need to further strengthen industry coordination and linkage, accelerate the sharing of teaching Chinese as a foreign language resources and co-construction of standards, making “Chinese+” a solid bridge connecting Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges.
At the closing ceremony, Xiao Fengling, Dean of the School of International Education and Cooperation at North Sichuan Medical College, delivered a summary speech. She emphasized that this seminar provided a high-quality platform for nationwide teaching Chinese as a foreign language educators to exchange experiences and ideas. Our deep cultivation, persistent reflection on the “Chinese+” model, and vivid practices across different institutions and fields will undoubtedly play a positive leading and promoting role in advancing the high-quality development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Southwest China and across the country.
