To help international students gain a comprehensive and immersive understanding of Nanchong, as well as China’s contemporary achievements and cultural heritage, the School of International Education and Cooperation of North Sichuan Medical College organized a cultural field study to Fengyi Bay on November 17, 2025. Themed “Experiencing Intangible Cultural Heritage and Exploring Smart Agriculture”, the activity was thoughtfully planned for the 2025 cohort of international freshmen.

During the field study, the students visited the “Tomato Smart Valley” in Fengyi Bay, where they explored precision and intelligent management systems in modern agriculture. They showed strong interest in frontier technologies such as soilless cultivation and automated environmental control, gaining firsthand experience of how rural revitalization in China integrates with cutting-edge technology. The group then proceeded to the picturesque wetland park, where they appreciated the beauty of natural ecology and reflected on the harmonious coexistence between economic development and environmental sustainability. At the wetland park, guides explained local ecological protection measures and the critical role wetlands play in preserving biodiversity. The students noted that this hands-on experience gave them a more vivid understanding of China’s efforts in ecological conservation.

In the afternoon, at an intangible cultural heritage workshop, the students tried their hand at pottery and aromatherapy craft making. Through the tactile and sensory experience, they gained an appreciation of the unique charm and craftsmanship embedded in traditional Chinese arts.

By combining modern agricultural development with intangible cultural heritage experiences, the field study allowed the students to witness the modernization of Nanchong’s rural areas while deepening their connection with traditional Chinese culture through hands-on participation. After the activity, the students unanimously expressed that the trip was enriching and unforgettable—a meaningful journey into Chinese culture.
